how often do men communicate face to face in a meaningful way?

Here's something to think about...how often do men communicate face to face in a meaningful way?

The wonderful Laura Boyer described the differences between how men and women communicate in a simple, yet profound way.

➡️⬅️Women are used to talking to each other face to face, which is an intimate way to communicate with not just words, but with eye contact, head gestures, and body language.

⬆️⬆️ 📺 Men are used to talking side by side (think of two guys watching sports in a bar, on a road trip, or next to each other in a cart on the golf course) and that type of communication is entirely verbal and not at all intimate.

It's no wonder that when it's time to do the heavy lifting of an important conversation, both are frustrated that the other side doesn't hear them.

Here are the steps that I took to bridge this divide:

⬆️ 💓 ⬆️Make side by side intimate. I love sitting side by side at a restaurant, hips touching and holding hands with nothing but the room and the view in front of us. It's not all the way to full frontal, but it allows the other person to feel you and read your body language towards them and what they are saying.

🤗 🗣 👂Wrap a whisper in a hug. Nothing is more intimate than a strong hug and whispered words of support. It has the advantage of no eye contact with maximum body language and the privacy of a conversation no one else can hear. That's intimate.

📲📝Keep the conversation going. Face to face and side to side are not your only options. I've been successful with some conversations starting in person and morphing into phone calls, texts, or written notes. Every person has a different love language and maybe (written) Words of Praise are more intimate than a stare down.

I did it and I know you can too, build a new life, strong and free after divorce.
